Welcome to UCI Family Medicine Dr. Dylan Hanami!

Please join us in welcoming new family physician faculty member Dr. Dylan Hanami who joined us in October, 2020.

Dr. Hanami, based in Anaheim, will serve as co-director of the Program in Medical Education for Latino Communities (PRIME-LC) residency track.

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Los Angeles, California in a Mexican-Japanese-American household.

Special Interests

Reproductive justice, gender affirming care, advocacy and community engagement, medication assisted treatment in primary care, patient-centered care, social medicine and health care disparities.

Personal Interests

Rock climbing, traveling, trying new foods.

Fun Fact about yourself

When I was five, I was chosen to meet the emperor and empress of Japan. I got all dressed up, my grandmother did my hair in a nice bun. I remember arriving at the venue and I had to walk down this long aisle, and there were tons of photographers lined up. As soon as I walked over to the emperor, I shook his hand, and bolted in the opposite direction. The photos made it to our local newspaper.

Why did you choose UCI?

I absolutely loved my residency experience. We have a great mix of academic and community medicine. Besides our amazing faculty, residents, and staff, our community is truly special. Our clinic is nestled within a very engaged Latino community. I knew there was so much growth still to come, and I didn't want to miss out on all the fun!

Future plans?

Great question! We will see what the future holds. I just want to hone my skills and be a solid full-spectrum doc.

Anything else you'd like to share about yourself?

I love languages, and am determined to be a polyglot one day. However, I'm only at 3 languages at the moment. :\
